DickDastardly's INSTRUCTIONS:

"Find the file default.txt in ..\Battle of Britain II\KEYBOARD folder and make a backup of it. Also backup the keyb3d.bin file.

Find the following entries:

FK_BOOSTCUTOUT

FK_ENGINESTARTER0
FK_ENGINESTARTER1

FK_FUELCOCK1
FK_FUELCOCK2

FK_MAG01
FK_MAG02

FK_PRIMER0
FK_PRIMER1

and map them to some keyboard keys.

Eg, I don't use the ALT+1,2,3 etc view keys so I cleared all the AROTDOWNLEFT, etc view entries that are mapped to keys ALT+1, ALT+2 etc.

If you're using the same keys as me clear all the existing 56+2, 56+3, up to 56+9 entries etc before you add them to something else. 56 is the code for the ALT key btw, in case that isn't clear.

Then changed it to read (don't enter the stuff in the ** area just the "56+ values

FK_FUELCOCK1 56+2 ** ALT+1 keypress, 56 = ALT key **
FK_FUELCOCK2 56+3 ** ALT+2 **
FK_MAG01 56+4 ** ALT+3 **
FK_MAG02 56+5 ** ALT+4 **
FK_PRIMER0 56+6 ** ALT+5 **
FK_PRIMER1 56+7 ** ALT+6 - Right Engine, Bf110 only **
FK_ENGINESTARTER0 56+8 ** ALT+7 **
FK_ENGINESTARTER1 56+9 ** ALT+8 - R Eng, Bf110 only **
FK_BOOSTCUTOUT 56+10 ** ALT+9 **

Save the default.txt file (I really hope you backed up the original if you don't like it)

NOTE - IF YOU SPENT ANY TIME MAPPING YOUR OWN KEYS IN BOB ITSELF YOU'LL HAVE TO REMAP THEM AGAIN. BACKUP A COPY OF YOUR existing keyb3d.bin FILE TO SOMETHING LIKE old_keyb.3d bin FIRST

Now go to your Options - Controls setting in BOB and select "Keyboard Mapping". Now press *Default* to "restore" the new defaults you've just set and Save the new key mapping. You may have to remap a key first in BOB before it'll let you "restore" to the new Default you've just made, IF you haven't changed any keys before. Also it might be an idea to quit BOB before restarting it, so the settings stick. Check the date/time of your keyb3d.bin after trying to change the keymap, it should read today/now or whatever date you changed it - Pre-empting all the "this doesn't work - you suck!" replies

Now when you want to start the engine, depending on aircraft, you might press:

ALT+1 (Fuelcock1 On)
ALT+2 (Fuelcock2 On)
ALT+3 (Magneto1 On)
ALT+4 (Magneto2 On)
ALT+5 (Primer Pump, hold for desired amount of pumping)
ALT+7 (Start the Engine)

NOTES

You'll still have to manually mouse move the Bf109 and Bf110 Magnetos as the above doesn't work for them. FK_MAGS1 and FKMAGS2 don't move anything, so I wouldn't bother mapping them. The German Magnetos didn't keymap well in the original BOB1 Rowan source code either. When dragging the German Magneto levers, I find it easier to move your mouse pointer over the magneto scale to the right of the round button and drag that UP.

On the Hurricane ALT+1 moves the Fuelcock lever clockwise, ALT+2 anticlockwise, so for reserve tanks on its ALT+1 twice.

On the 109, ALT+1 = Fuelcock forward, ALT+2 = Fuelcock back,

On the 110, ALT+1 = Toggle Fuelcock1 (Left Engine), ALT+2 = Toggle Fuelcock2 (Right Engine), ALT+6 and ALT+8 prime and start your Right Engine.

Using the keyboard means flipping the switches makes no sound, so confirm everything visually."
